Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Company, wanted to hire someone for an important position in his company. Therefore, he chose two graduates from the same university and the same field of study, and invited them to have dinner with him at a restaurant. After dinner, as everyone was leaving the restaurant, Ford announced to one of them that he would be hired for the position, while he told the other that he would not be part of the team.
The young man who was rejected bravely accepted the rejection and decided to confront Ford with a question. He said to him, "Mr. Ford, may I ask you a question?" Ford replied, "Go ahead." The young man responded, "We didn't talk about engineering, cars, or the university. We only talked about general matters. Why was my friend employed and I was rejected?"
Ford answered, saying, "I have two reasons for that. First, your friend tasted a slice of meat and then added salt to it, while you added salt before tasting it. I admire people who try things before attempting to change them. Second, your friend was polite with the waiters and said 'thank you' and 'sorry,' while you were completely invisible to them. You were only polite to me! A great leader who wants to make an impact in his work should treat everyone as human beings."
